MIDLAND, Texas - Texas A&M men's tennis player and former local prep standout Austin Klores (Franklin, Texas) reached the quarterfinals of singles on the first day of competition at the Midland Racquet Club Invitational.
Klores claimed a 6-1, 6-3 straight-set victory over Nathan Robinson of Tyler Junior College in the opening round and later stunned second-seeded Dimitri Novinkov of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 6-4, 7-5, in the round of 32. He will face David Gonzales of Texas Tech in tomorrow's quarterfinal match.
Junior Marcus Lunt (San Antonio, Texas) also reached the second round of singles with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Blaine Shields of Boise State, but lost to third-seeded Michael Breler of Texas Tech, 6-3, 6-4, in the round of 16. Play continues through Sunday at the Midland Racquet Club.
