COLLEGE STATION - The Texas A&M equestrian team will take on Southern Methodist on Friday at 10 a.m. at the Brazos County Expo Complex in Bryan.
The competition will pit the two teams' hunter seat squads against one another. SMU (1-2) fields only a hunter seat team at this point in time.
The third-ranked Aggies (2-0) are coming off a climactic 10-9 road win over Kansas State two weeks ago. The win helped lift A&M above 2007 national champion South Carolina in the national poll. The Aggies also have a 15-5 home win over No. 9 Fresno State to their credit as well.
The Mustangs dropped a 5.5 to 4.5 road decision to Delaware State this past Sunday in Dover. SMU does have an impressive 10-0 road rout of Sacred Heart to their credit which they accomplished last Saturday. The Mustangs opened the season by dropping an 8-2 decision at Oklahoma State on Sept. 20.
The A&M hunter seat group has faced SMU four times in varsity competition and has walked away with victories in all four occasions. The Mustangs have visited College Station once before under the varsity banner and nearly walked out with a victory that day. A&M won a 6-6 tiebreaker between the two schools at Freeman Arena on Oct. 15, 2006. A&M won the last meeting between the two schools, 8-3, at Park Lane Equestrian Center in Dallas on Nov. 2, 2007.
Texas A&M equestrian shows are free of charge. The 12th Man Team Rewards Program will be in attendance to stamp/scan fans and a coloring station will be available for children. Copies of the 2007-08 Texas A&M Equestrian Media Guide will be available for sale as well.
The Brazos County Expo Center is located at 5827 Leonard Road in Bryan, Texas.
