MANSFIELD, Texas - Texas A&M senior All-American Conor Pollock (pronounced PAUL-luck) advanced to the second round of the qualifying singles draw at the USTA Futures Pro Circuit tournament held Saturday afternoon at the Walnut Creek Country Club.
Pollock, who is ranked No. 1247 in the world and seeded 10th in the qualifier, defeated Myles David Golding of Great Britain, 6-1, 6-0. The San Antonio native is competing as an amateur and will face former A&M teammate John Nallon (2003-07) in the second round after his opponent, Pavel Krainik of Canada, retired in the first set, 5-0.
Fresh off a USTA doubles title victory at the Tangipahoa Men's Pro Tennis Classic on Friday in Hammond, La., former A&M players Bryan Wooten (2004-07) and Brett Joelson (2004-07) also reached the second round of the singles qualifying draw. Wooten, who is seeded 12th and ranked No. 1315 in the world, eliminated American Maximillien Ando Hirsch, 6-2, 6-3, while Joelson got past American David Henkel, 6-2, 6-2. Play continues tomorrow at 10 a.m.
