
Krajicek Reaches Second Round Of Mansfield Futures Main Draw

MANSFIELD, Texas - Texas A&M sophomore standout Austin Krajicek (Brandon, Fla.) defeated American Jordan Cox, 7-5, 4-6, 6-4, in the opening round of the USTA Futures Pro Circuit singles main draw held Tuesday at the Walnut Creek Country Club.
Krajicek, who is ranked No. 897 in the world and competing as an amateur, will face either American Devin Britton or former Texas A&M All-American Lester Cook (2002-04) in the second round on Thursday. Krajicek earned a wild-card entry into the Mansfield Futures tournament after reaching the semifinals last fall. Cook is currently ranked No. 314 in the world and played in the U.S. Open qualifying draw in 2007, while Krajicek the main draw in 2008.
In other tennis action, former players John Nallon (2003-07) and Brett Joelson (2004-07) lost in the qualifying singles draw on Monday to American Johannes Van Overbeek, 6-4, 6-3, and sixth-seeded Canadian Philip Bester, 6-3, 6-2, respectively. Both Aggies have had success on the courts in recent weeks. Joelson won a USTA Pro Circuit doubles title with former A&M teammate Bryan Wooten (2004-07) in Hammond, Louisiana, while Nallon played in a wild-card tournament at Walnut Creek reaching the finals of singles and doubles.
Nallon and his partner Gareth Ducray of Russia advanced to the quarterfinals in the doubles main draw after a walkover by third-seeded Luis-Manuel Flores and Sebastian Rieschick in the first round. Nallon and Ducray will take on former collegian Treat Huey and All-American Travis Helgeson on Thursday.
