COLLEGE STATION - The ninth-ranked Texas A&M women's swimming & diving team will compete in dual meets against Kansas and No. 18 Missouri as well as the entire conference at the Big 12 Relays this week.
Up first for A&M will be a double dual meet against host Kansas and No. 18 Missouri on Thursday at 6 p.m. at Robinson Natatorium in Lawrence.
With a win against either opponent, head coach Steve Bultman will become the winningest women's swim coach in Texas A&M history. Bultman has compiled an 81-20 dual meet record since taking over the helm of the Aggie program in 1999, which includes a record of 20-1 over the last two-plus seasons.
"Steve has brought a new era to women swimming at Texas A&M and we're thrilled to be a part of it," Aggie junior and team co-captain Melissa Hain (Kingwood) said. "We're here to stay and that's due in great part to what he's done as our coach. It's special to all of us personally because he loves the team every bit as much as we do. We've all helped each other accomplish our goals so we're very happy to try and help him set this record this week."
Bultman is currently tied with former A&M men's and women's head coach Mel Nash who racked up a record of 81-62 over 16 seasons coaching the women's team.
On Friday, the Aggies will shoot for their third straight Big 12 Relays title against the other five schools in the conference. A&M has been dominant in the pool at the Relays the last two years, winning all 32 races over that span. The Aggies will lock horns with a revitalized No. 7 Texas squad that took down No. 5 California in Berkeley last weekend.
The Aggies will swim in pink swim caps during both meets to help raise both awareness and money for breast cancer. Kansas officials will be collecting donations at the gates of both meets as well as the gates of the Baylor-Kansas soccer game on Sunday. They will also be selling pink ribbons for purchase to place on the wall of the natatorium during this week's meets. The money raised will be donated to The Breast Center at Lawrence Memorial Hospital and the KU Cancer Center.
