MANSFIELD, Texas - Texas A&M sophomore All-American Austin Krajicek (pronounced CRY-check) upset world No. 314-ranked and former player Lester Cook, 6-2, 6-0, in the second round of the USTA Futures Pro Circuit singles main draw held Thursday afternoon at the Walnut Creek Country Club.
It marked Krajicek's highest career victory over a ranked professional player. The 18-year-old lefty from Brandon, Fla., is currently ranked No. 897 in the world and competing at the tournament as an amateur. Cook, seeded seventh in the draw, was a three-time All-American for the Aggies from 2002-04.
"I was really happy with today's result," Krajicek said. "I started off the match prepared and I played really well from the first point on to the last. I never let up in the match and didn't give Lester (Cook) a chance to come back in the second set. Hopefully, I can keep the momentum going into the quarters tomorrow."
Krajicek will take on either No. 553-ranked Tigran Martirosyan of Armenia or former Bollettieri Tennis Academy classmate and No. 837-ranked Philip Bester of Canada in tomorrow morning's quarterfinal match.
