COLLEGE STATION - The Texas A&M equestrian team moved up to the No. 2 spot in the latest edition of the Women's Intercollegiate Equestrian National Coaches Poll released on Tuesday.
The Aggies (3-0) have been on a steady climb upward since being ranked fourth in the initial poll exactly one month ago. Thanks to No. 1 Auburn's 12-5 home victory over defending national champion Georgia (3-1), the Aggies have now leapfrogged the Bulldogs. The Tigers (3-0) remained in the top spot thanks to wins over both their SEC rivals within the past month.
Two other Texas schools were the big movers in this week's poll. Baylor (5-1) jumped from No. 6 to No. 4 thanks to an impressive 15-5 win over 2007 national champion South Carolina (1-3) in Waco on Oct. 25. With the loss, the Gamecocks traded spots with Bears, slipping to No. 6.
TCU (3-2) was the biggest mover in the new poll, jumping from No. 10 to No. 7 thanks to a 12-7 win over South Carolina on Oct. 26.
Fresno State (2-6) moved up one spot from No. 9 to No. 8 thanks to a 10-9 home defeat of No. 5 Oklahoma State (3-1).
The Aggies, who are one of only two undefeated teams left nationwide, are currently in preparation for a Nov. 8 road contest at No. 5 Oklahoma State, a place where the Cowgirls defeated A&M 17-9 last November.
