KISSIMMEE, Fla. - No. 21-ranked Arizona downed No. 22 Texas A&M 4-1 on Tuesday to capture 11th place at the Hooters Collegiate Match Play Championship at the Ginn Reunion Resort.
No. 7 Duke won the championship with a 4-1 win against No. 6 Alabama.
Sophomore Sarah Zwartynski was the Aggies' lone winner against the Wildcats, posting a 4 and 2 victory against Amanda Wilson. Zwartynski completed a perfect 3-0 record in the event after going 4-0 last year as a freshman.
Meanwhile, A&M senior Lauren Johnson lost to Brittany Benvenuto (2 and 1), sophomore Ashley Freeman was defeated by Alejandra Llaneza (2 Up) and freshman Crystal Reeves lost to Isabelle Boineau (4 and 3).
"It was a tough day for the Aggies," A&M Coach Trelle McCombs said. "We played a solid Arizona team and they never let down. Sarah went undefeated again this year and played well every day. I saw a few good things we did this week and some other areas we really need to address in the offseason. We're really looking forward to the spring and getting back out there."
The Aggies open their spring schedule at the Northrup Grumman Challenge Feb. 9-11 in Palos Verdes, Calif.
