KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Texas A&M sophomore men's tennis All-American and 2008 U.S. Open participant Austin Krajicek (pronounced CRY-check) recently picked up two victories in the singles qualifying draw at the Knoxville Challenger Series held at the Goodfriend Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Tennessee.
Krajicek, who competed as an amateur in the USTA Pro Circuit event, defeated fellow American and one of the top juniors players in the country in Tennys Sandgren, 6-4, 6-4, in the opening round. He also beat American Ryan Rowe, a former All-American at Illinois, 6-4, 7-6 (2), in the second round of the qualifier. Krajicek fell to seventh-seeded GD Jones of New Zealand in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3, for a spot in the main draw.
Former two-time A&M All-American Lester Cook (2002-04) also competed at the Knoxville Challenger, but had to retire in the second set of his first-round match against American Brian Battistone, 6-4, 3-2, in the 32-player singles main draw.
