IRVING, Texas - Texas A&M's Adaora Elonu (pronounced uh-DOOR-uh EE-lawn-ew) earned Phillips 66 Big 12 Conference Women's Basketball Freshman of the Week honors as announced by the league office Monday.
A 6-foot-1 freshman forward from Houston, Texas, Elonu scored a career-high 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the floor in No. 8 Texas A&M's 59-56 road victory at Michigan on Nov. 20 in Ann Arbor, Mich. She also added six rebounds and two steals to nab her first career weekly honor.
Elonu has made two starts for the Aggies and is currently averaging 6.7 points and 7.3 rebounds per game in 22.3 minutes of play. She is tied for second among Big 12 freshmen in rebounding (7.3 ppg) and is tops in steals (2.0 spg) through all games played. Elonu is the second A&M freshman to garner weekly honors in consecutive weeks next to preseason Big 12 Freshman of the Year Tyra White who was selected on Nov. 17.
