
Aljand Smashes Estonian 100-Meter Butterfly Record

RIJEKA, Croatia - Texas A&M senior Triin Aljand (Tallinn, Estonia) set a new national record in the 100-meter butterfly at the 2008 European Short Course Swimming Championships on Saturday.
Aljand crushed her old record of 1:01.98 set in her hometown in 2006 by clocking a time of 58.13 during the preliminary rounds on Saturday morning. She advanced to the semifinals as the ninth fastest qualifier.
Aljand turned in a sixth-place finish in the second of the two semifinal heats on Saturday evening, recording a time of 58.75.
The national record is her second in as many days. Aljand set a new 50 fly record of 25.57 on Friday, resulting in a fourth-place finish.
She will wrap up her time at the European Short Course Championships by competing in the 50-meter freestyle on Sunday.
