The 2008 NCAA Women?™s Swimming & Diving Championships will be broadcast nationally on ESPN2 on Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. Central.
The 2008 NCAA Championships proved to be the most successful national meet in Texas A&M swimming & diving history as the Aggies earned their first-ever top five finish and brought home a team trophy from the national meet for the first time ever.
Highlights of the meet for the Aggies included a second place finish for the 800-yard freestyle relay as well as third-place finishes for the 200 medley and 400 free relays. The 800-yard freestyle relay team of Christine Marshall (Newport News, Va.), Kristen Heiss (Casper, Wyo.), Codie Hansen (Arlington), and Julia Wilkinson (Stratford, Ont.) cracked the seven minute mark with a blazing time of 6:59.50 which ranks as the third fastest in collegiate history.
On an individual level, junior Julia Wilkinson finished second in the closest 100-yard freestyle race in NCAA history while taking third in the 200 free despite competing in both races at the national meet for the first time in her career. Junior Kristen Heiss earned a pair of third-place finishes in the 200-yard backstroke and 500-yard freestyle while sophomore Alia Atkinson (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) claimed a career-best finish of third in the 200-yard breaststroke to help infuse big momentum for the Aggies towards their landmark team finish.
