Colson To Undergo ACL Surgery

COLLEGE STATION, Texas- Texas A&M women’s basketball player Sydney Colson (Houston, Texas) will undergo surgery to correct a torn anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee which she injured on June 20.
Colson, who will be a sophomore in the fall, was projected to be the team’s starting point guard next season with the graduation of current WNBA player A’Quonesia Franklin. Last year, Colson averaged 3.2 points, 1.3 assists and 1.1 steals per game off the bench for the Aggies who reached the NCAA Elite Eight and were crowned Big 12 Conference champions for a second year in a row.
Texas A&M Director of Sports Medicine Dr. J.P. Bramhall confirmed the tear on Monday after a preliminary diagnosis on Friday. Colson will likely miss preseason workouts and part of non-conference play.
“Knowing Sydney, she will be back before the normal recovery time, because of her resiliency and dedication to our basketball team,” Texas A&M head coach Gary Blair said. “Prior to the injury, she was having an outstanding summer getting into shape and playing well for the upcoming season. I know she will receive the best medical care for a healthy recovery. She has done a tremendous job of being a leader on our basketball team.”
A&M returns a veteran lineup which includes three returning starters in seniors-to-be Takia Starks (Houston, Texas), Danielle Gant (Oklahoma City, Okla.) and La Toya Micheaux (Houston, Texas) as well as a deep roster of talented guards.
Summer Circuit?...Coach Blair has had an eventful summer from hosting his annual Gary Blair Celebrity Golf Classic benefiting Special Olympics to throwing out the first pitch at a Houston Astros game to receiving a one-day contract as a designated hitter for the local Brazos Valley Bombers of the Texas Collegiate League. His latest venture will be taking a group of Traveling Aggies for seven days of golf from June 24-30 in Pinehurst, N.C. Pinehurst has played host to the 1999 and 2005 U.S. Open Golf Championships.
