BIRMINGHAM, England- After waiting for the verdict in the court hearing regarding Dwain Chambers’ non-participation in the Beijing Olympics this past weekend, Texas A&M’s Tyrone Edgar and Craig Pickering were selected to represent Great Britain in the 100 meters along with Simeon Williamson.
Already chosen to the British 4 x 100 relay pool, Edgar will now get to contest the 100 meters during the Olympics as well. Edgar competed for Texas A&M in 2005 and 2006, earning two All-American honors from the 100 meters and 4 x 100 relay.
“This has been one of the strangest weeks of my life and I don’t ever want another one like it,” said Edgar, who placed fourth in the 100 during the UK Athletics Olympic Trials. “I would have preferred a smoother ride, but it has been like a roller-coaster. Athletics is like that, you have ups and downs.
“I remained hopeful throughout the week I would get selected for the individual 100 meters. Now I have a big smile on my face, the Olympics are the biggest sporting event in the world and I’m really excited to be part of it.”
