COLLEGE STATION - The eighth-ranked Texas A&M women's swimming & diving team will put its undefeated dual meet record on the line Saturday against No. 18 Southern Methodist at Perkins Natatorium in Dallas at 1 p.m.
The Aggies (5-0) haven't contested a dual meet since ending No. 15 Penn State's 27 dual meet win streak in College Station on Halloween night with a 153-88 victory. The A&M swimmers have spent much of the past two weeks on their winter training trip in Miami. While there, the Aggies swept a nine-event exhibition meet against the Hurricanes last Saturday.
SMU (4-2-1) is coming off a 137.5-99.5 loss to No. 1 Georgia in Dallas on Tuesday. The Mustangs captured two wins against the Bulldogs with senior Petra Klosova taking the 100-yard freestyle in 50.24 and sophomore Denisa Smolenova capturing the 200-yard butterfly in 2:02.66. SMU is the reigning Conference USA champion and earned an 11th-place finish at the 2008 NCAA Championships.
Despite having beaten SMU in a dual meet only four times in its history, the Aggies have captured wins in each of the last two seasons. A&M won the last meeting, a 181-100 victory over the No. 12 Mustangs on Jan. 12, 2008, in College Station. The two teams most recently faced off at the Art Adamson Invitational in College Station in November with A&M taking second place while SMU finished fourth.
