GAME PREVIEW
A Texas-sized top 25 shootout is in store for both the No. 11/7-ranked Texas A&M women's basketball team (15-3, 3-2) and No. 16/17 Texas (14-4, 2-2) as state bragging rights will be on the line in a heated-rivalry matchup scheduled on Wednesday, Jan. 28 at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas. Tipoff for the first of two State Farm Lone Star Showdowns between the Aggies and Longhorns is set for 7 p.m. (CT) in the state capital. The winner will earn a half-point toward the Lone Star Showdown standings. A&M will face its fourth consecutive top 25 opponent in a span of 10 days and is coming off a 60-50 road victory at No. 24/25 Oklahoma State on Jan. 25. The Aggies have only won twice in Austin in 12 tries in Big 12 Conference regular-season play including two of the last three road trips in the series. A&M will have its hands full defending the perimeter as UT ranks sixth nationally with a 39.2 percent accuracy from behind the three-point arc, but the Aggie defense should be well equipped for the long ball as they are holding opponents to 23.0 percent shooting from downtown this season which ranks second best in the country.

ON THE AIR
The game will be televised regionally on the Longhorn Sports Network with play-by-play announcer Kevin Eschenfelder and color analyst Debbie Antonelli calling the action live from the Frank Erwin Center in Austin. The game will air throughout the state of Texas as well as Louisiana and Arkansas on Fox Sports Southwest (FSNSW) except for the Houston market (which includes the Bryan-College Station area) receiving the Houston Rockets game Wednesday night. For fans in the Houston area, the game will air on an alternate channel called FSN-PLUS. Aggie fans in the Bryan-College Station area can view the game if they are satellite subscribers to Dish Network (Channel 416) and DirecTV (Channel 676). Pay subscribers to the ESPN Full Court package on satellite cable will also receive the game. Fans who live in the Austin area can watch the game locally on Time Warner Cable (Channel 54).

EYEING TEXAS
With one of the most talented and tallest squads in the Big 12, the Texas women's basketball program has been revived under second-year head coach Gail Goestenkors. The Longhorns, who have been ranked all season long in the top 25 poll, were picked to finish second in the preseason coaches poll with one first-place vote. They are in the midst of a tough three-game stretch against three of the nation's top 10 teams. UT suffered a 89-69 loss at No. 3/2 Oklahoma on Jan. 25 and will take on No. 4/3 Baylor on Feb. 1 in Waco. Seven of the 11 Longhorn players on the active roster are over six-feet tall contributing to the team's current No. 7 national ranking in blocked shots per game (6.1). Senior point guard Carla Cortijo is one of four Big 12 point guards to rank among the top 10 nationally in assists averaging 6.1 per game for fourth-best in the league.

AGGIE NOTABLE QUOTABLES
"We just had three games in seven days and this will make four in 10 days against all top 25 teams. It is what it is. We can't do anything about the schedule. We've also faced five-straight Big 12 South opponents. I look at it as an opportunity for our program. If you are going to make a statement on who you are - play the best teams. We tend to play better against the best teams in the league. We just came off a very good ballgame against Baylor and we played very good defense against Oklahoma State. We had great shots against OSU. We were on the road, we made 9-of-10 free throws down the stretch and we held them to no field goals in nine minutes and 36 seconds of the second half. I am going to use that as a positive, instead of our 33 percent shooting from the field. I get up for these games." - Texas A&M head coach Gary Blair on another top 25 matchup with Texas

"Texas is one of the three most talented teams in our conference. It is up to us to make sure that talent doesn't come out. It's her (Texas head coach Gail Goestenkors) job to make sure that her talent comes out and they execute. Our job is to make them have to guard us and do the little things right on defense. We have won two out of the last three times down at Texas. We have done it, because of defense first and offense second. That's what we have to do, but we really respect Texas' talent on the floor. When they play well like they did against Tennessee, they are a top 10 team." - Coach Blair on Texas

"Kathleen Nash is the big key. You have to limit her touches like OU did (on Sunday). She only had eight points in the last couple of minutes of the game. Texas is one of the taller teams in the league and we can have some problems there. What we have to do is make sure they do not penetrate and kick. Carla (Cortijo) has really improved as a point guard. She and Maria Moore at Texas Tech are very similar. They are penetrate kickers. Carla understands the offense a little bit better and she has lived up to her billing as a member of the No. 1 recruiting class they signed four or five years ago. She is one of the better point guards in our league." - Coach Blair on limiting Texas' three-point range and guard play

"It's not just another nationally-ranked team, it is Texas, whether either one of us is ranked or not. As an Aggie or a Longhorn, you have an obligation to give it your best shot. Our players look forward to it. The rankings do not mean a thing when these two teams play. We look at it as an opportunity. They have two losses in conference play, we have two losses in conference play. With Baylor and Oklahoma both undefeated, they are going to decide who is No. 1 on Wednesday night, but you want to make sure you are only two games back from them. That's the most important thing. We have two road wins out of three which is pretty good." - Coach Blair on the rivalry more importantly than the national rankings

"We just have to go out there and play good defense against them. We have won five out of the last six games and won both games last year. Texas is a really good team. We have to execute and have a good defensive game like we did at Oklahoma State and not let their shooters get loose. We want to keep our momentum going to be able to remain in contention for a Big 12 Conference title at the end of the year." - Sophomore point guard Sydney Colson on Texas
