COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Sports Radio 1150 The Zone recently announced its broadcast schedule for the 2009 Texas A&M Softball season.
Fans will be able to listen to select games live locally on 1150 AM. Internet broadcasts will also be available at AggieAthletics.com or KZNE.com for all games. Home games can be viewed via internet video broadcast as well.
Broadcasts will begin 15 minutes prior to the first pitch. The schedule of games carried on The Zone is subject to change.
"Even before we enjoyed our flagship status with TAMU Athletics we were proud to broadcast softball games," said Ben Downs, KZNE General Manager. "Their success in having back-to-back appearances at the Women's College World Series means we get to broadcast winners playing at the highest level of softball. And with Jo Evans, we have a coach that takes part in our broadcasts outside of the play-by-play. We've broadcast softball before and are excited to team up with the Aggies again."
Highlighted in the broadcast schedule are the fifth-ranked Aggies' opening weekend games against Tulsa and UTSA (Feb. 7 only), No. 7 Arizona (Feb. 27-28) and No. 13 Houston (March 4). Big 12 games to be aired on 1150 AM include Baylor (March 25), Texas (April 1, May 2), No. 16 Missouri (April 4-5) and No. 6 Oklahoma (April 18-19).
The Zone's program director, Louie Belina, will voice road game play-by-play. He will be joined by Texas A&M Director of Softball Operations Stephen Grove as color commentator. Tim Schnettler, a former sports writer for The Bryan-College Station Eagle, joins the Aggies this season and will handle play-by-play duties for the home games.
Schnettler spent 12 years with the Eagle, including four years as the beat writer for A&M softball. He also served as the color commentator for Bryan High football for two seasons and last season handled color commentary duties for Rudder High football. He is currently the Media Coordinator for Texas A&M Engineering.
"I appreciate that we're one of the few schools that broadcast radio and that our listeners have a chance to catch us on the internet every game," said A&M head coach Jo Evans. "Louie does a fantastic job and our listeners have really jumped on board with him. He brings the game to life. I'm also excited about the addition of Tim to our staff this season." Sports Radio 1150 The Zone, along with its partner station, News/Talk 1620 WTAW, are the flagship stations for Texas A&M Athletics. Football, men's basketball, women's basketball and baseball are all aired on the stations, along with numerous weekly and daily Aggie coaches' shows.
The 2009 softball team is looking for a third-straight trip to the Women's College World Series under head coach Jo Evans. In 2008 the Aggies made their seventh-straight NCAA tournament appearance, winning both the College Station Regional and Super Regional Tournaments to advance to Oklahoma City.
The official home of Texas A&M Athletics, AggieAthletics.com, is in its seventh season of broadcasting A&M softball games worldwide on the internet. Through its partnership with CSTV, Aggie All-Access brings fans free live and on-demand audio and video content all season long. A&M kicks off its season at home on Feb. 6, hosting the 2009 Aggie Classic presented by Honey Baked Ham.
