Last Time They Met

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP, March 13, 2008) - Dominique Kirk hit five 3-pointers and had 19 points, and Josh Carter hit two free throws with 7 seconds left to help Texas A&M hold off third-seeded Kansas State 63-60 in a Big 12 tournament quarterfinal. Bryan Davis had 11 points, Carter added 10 and Kirk was 5-of-6 from 3-point range for A&M. Kansas State's Michael Beasley had 25 points and nine rebounds, but Bill Walker (10 points) was the only other double-figures scorer for Kansas State. Kansas State still had a chance after Carter's two free throws, but the Wildcats' Clent Stewart missed a wild 3-pointer. The Wildcats got the rebound and kicked it out to Jacob Pullen, but his 3-pointer hit front rim and bounced out. The Aggies hit from the perimeter early - Kirk had three 3-pointers in the first four minutes - and had good interior passing, setting up easy shots at the rim. A&M shot 15-of-27 to lead by five at halftime, then stretched the lead to 47-38 over the first 6 1/2 minutes of the second half.

Last Year in Manhattan

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP, Jan. 18, 2008) - Michael Beasley scored 21 points to lead Kansas State to a 75-54 victory over No. 10-ranked Texas A&M in front of a roaring sellout crowd. KSU freshman Josh Carter had 13 points for the Aggies, who shot only 37.8 percent, while Jones had 12 and Donald Sloan 10. Stewart had 10 points for Kansas State, which outrebounded the taller visitors 32-29. A&M came in with a nation-leading rebounding margin of 11.5 and had not been outrebounded all year.

Oklahoma Recap

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) -- Taylor Griffin made a tiebreaking layup with 46.4 seconds left to complete No. 2-ranked Oklahoma's rally from a late nine-point deficit in a 77-71 victory over Texas A&M on Wednesday night. The Sooners (22-1, 8-0 Big 12) blew a 15-point lead and found themselves trailing 68-59 with 6:25 to play before rallying behind the defense of Juan Pattillo. Pattillo blocked a dunk attempt by Josh Carter and a layup by Bryan Davis had 13 points. Carter and Nathan Walkup combined to score all of A&M's points during a 13-0 run, which gave the Aggies their nine-point lead. Blake Griffin hit two free throws to start Oklahoma's comeback, and Elonu fouled out with 5:36 left, clutching both hands to his face after he was whistled for jumping underneath Pattillo on a rebound. The Aggies didn't have another field goal the rest of the way.

Inside Dish

• A&M is arguably the most balanced team in the Big 12 with five played averaging between 9.6 and 11.3 points in Big 12 play.

• A&M posted a perfect 1,000 APR (Academic Progress Rate) score for 2007-08.

• A&M is averaging 15.8 turnovers in its Big 12 losses, but only 10.7 in its Big 12 wins. A&M is 14-2 when it has 15 or fewer turnovers this season, but is 3-4 when it has more than 15 miscues.

• The narrow loss at No. 2 Oklahoma marked the first time A&M has lost when its "Big Three" -- Josh Carter, Bryan Davis -- have each scored in double figures. A&M is 12-1 when the trio all scores in double figures, including an 8-1 mark this season.

• A&M's 80 home wins in the last four years are the second most in the nation in that period behind Memphis (85).

• A&M is 12-0 this year when its opponent scores fewer than 67 points.

• Under Mark Turgeon, the Aggies are 19-0 when they make better than 50 percent from the field and are 32-4 when they make at least 45 percent.

• Junior Chinemelu Elonu may be the Big 12's most improved player this season. He leads the Big 12 in offensive rebounds (4.3) and ranks second in blocks (1.8) in league play. He has had a team-high seven double-doubles including three in conference play, the third most in the league. Elonu's season field goal percentage of .645 ranks 7th nationally (min. 125 FGA). In conference play, he leads the team in scoring (11.3), rebounding (8.5), blocks (37) and field goal accuracy (.600).

• Senior Josh Carter owns the school record for career three-point field goals with 269, which ranks sixth in Big 12 history. He needs two more treys to move into the all-time top five in the league. Carter is the most accurate three-point shooter in school history, making 41.6 percent. He led the nation in 2006-07 by making 50.0 percent.

• Carter leads the Big 12 in free throw percentage (.867, 72-83), ranking 28th nationally. The school record for a season is .865 by Mike Floyd in 1974-75. A&M is 61-13 when Carter scores in double figures but just 30-20 when he doesn't hit at least 10. A two-time honorable mention All-Big 12 pick, Carter was a second-team preseason selection.

• Carter has started in 93 straight games -- every game since the start of his sophomore season. He has played in all 124 career games and is on track to break the school record of 132 by Dominique Kirk (2004-08).

• Junior Bryan Davis has averaged 14.7 points and 7.7 rebounds while making 70.8 percent from the field in the last three games. He ranks second on the team in rebounds (6.2) and blocks (29) and was named to the all-tournament team at the South Padre Island Invitational. A&M is 23-4 when Davis scores in double figures in his career.

• Junior Donald Sloan has started in 59 straight games since the start of his sophomore year (2007-08). He scored 17 points and made 3-of-4 three-pointers at Texas and added 15 in the win against Oklahoma State. Sloan leads the team in assists (3.2). A&M is 35-6 when Sloan hands out at least 3 assists.

• Sophomore B.J. Holmes scored a career-high 24 points in the win against Tech and made 6-of-7 three-pointers (.857), tying for the fourth-best percentage in school history. He made six straight treys against Tech, tying the Big 12 record. Holmes ranks among the top scoring bench players in the Big 12, averaging 9.6 points in league play. He hit a rainbow three-pointer with two seconds left to send the Alabama game into overtime. A&M is 11-3 in his career when he scores at least 8 points and is 23-7 when he makes at least one three-pointer.

• Junior Derrick Roland, one of the nation's premier defensive players, generally guards the opposing team's top offensive guard and in Big 12 play had limited those players to 12.1 points per game on just 24 percent shooting, including 28 percent from three-point range. He scored 10 points in the win against Baylor, making both his three-point tries, and added a season-high 4 assists. Roland held Arizona's Chase Budinger to just 3 points on 1-of-6 shooting in the second half of A&M's come-from-behind victory. He helped limit Texas' A.J. Abrams to just 9 points on 3-of-10 shooting (0-2 on three-pointers).

• Sophomore Nate Walkup has become the Aggies' new "Mr. Clutch" for making big shots in tight games. His trey against Arizona with 20 seconds left proved to be the game-winner. He hit a three-pointer with 14 seconds left at Alabama, which set up B.J. Holmes trey at the end of regulation that sent the game into overtime. Walkup also hit key baskets late in close games against Stephen F. Austin, SMU and Rice.

• Freshman Dash Harris has had 27 assists with just 14 turnovers in the last 11 games.

• Freshman David Loubeau has averaged 10.5 points and 6.0 rebounds in the last three games. He ranks second among Big 12 freshman in offensive rebounds (2.4) in conference play.
