COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Elite Eight Texas A&M soccer team plays nine matches at the Aggie Soccer Stadium to complete its spring schedule, head coach G Guerrieri announced on Monday.
"I am excited about the challenges our players will experience during our non-traditional season," said Guerrieri. "Our games will match our team against in-state and national-level rivals."
The Aggies' spring games consist of five dates beginning with the annual 7v7 tournament on Feb. 22. A month later, A&M faces TCU (March 29), before hosting 2008 NCAA Tournament teams LSU and BYU (April 4), followed by Big 12 Tournament Champions Oklahoma State (April 10). Stephen F. Austin and another NCAA Tournament team, Marquette (April 18) are the final matches of the non-traditional season.
"The spring soccer season has always been a great time of individual growth for our players," Guerrieri continued. "One of the biggest developmental tools comes from competing against other teams that appeared in the NCAA Championship. Playing all of the games at home is just an added bonus for us. We also wanted to give our fans an additional perk for their loyalty, so admission to all games this spring is FREE to the general public."
In 2008, the Aggies secured their 14th straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament advancing to the quarterfinals of the championship before falling in double overtime to the eventual National Champions, North Carolina. A&M finished the season ranked seventh in the nation with an 18-5-1 record.
