COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Texas A&M women's tennis team broke into the Top 25, coming in at No. 25 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Top 75 rankings, released today.
A&M, which moved up two spots this week, has continued to climb in the rankings this season since receiving a No. 31 preseason ranking on January 6. The last time the Aggies were in the Top 25 was March 4, 2008, when they also were No. 25 after upsetting No. 19 Wake Forest.
The Aggies are currently 3-2 with victories over then-No. 28 Denver, No. 60 Saint Mary's (Calif.) and No. 25 Auburn. Losses were to No. 10 Southern California, and most recently, a 4-3 setback to No. 23 LSU on Sunday.
No. 4 Baylor is the only other team from the Big 12 Conference ranked in the Top 25. Texas is No. 28, and Colorado, Oklahoma State and Kansas are ranked No. 47, 71 and 75, respectively.
The Aggie women return to action February 21 at No. 8 Duke and then face a rematch with No. 32 Wake Forest February 22 in Winston-Salem, N.C.
The Aggie men's team also climbed in the rankings this week, moving up one spot to No. 14. The men are 2-2 entering a match at No. 34 TCU in Fort Worth on February 18.
The first men's and women's singles and doubles rankings of 2009 will be released Thursday, Feb. 19, along with the next team rankings.
