Last Time They Met
COLLEGE STATION (AP, Jan. 14, 2009) -- Bryan Davis both scored 17 points and Elonu had a career-high 16 rebounds as Texas A&M got its first Big 12 win, 84-73 over No. 21 Baylor. A&M (15-2, 1-1) led by 11 points after the first half and 3-pointers by Josh Carter each added 15 points for A&M.
Last Year in Waco
WACO (AP, March 5, 2008) - Josh Carter and Donald Sloan scored 17 points apiece as Texas A&M beat Baylor 71-57, avenging a five-overtime loss in College Station. DeAndre Jordan grabbed 10 rebounds and blocked six shots for the Aggies. Curtis Jerrells and Mamadou Diene scored nine points apiece for Baylor, held under 60 points for the first time. The Bears, the Big 12's second-best 3-point shooting team, went 4-for-19 from long range and shot 21-for-63 (33 percent) from the field overall. The Aggies jumped out to a 10-2 lead before the Bears cut the lead to two. Carter sank back-to-back 3-pointers to help A&M push the lead to 22-12. Baylor then mounted a 9-0 run, finished by Diene's three-point play with 3:34 left in the half. But the Bears shot only 24 percent (7-for-29) and missed all nine 3-point attempts in the half as the Aggies led 26-21 at the break. Tweety Carter sank Baylor's first 3-pointer with 17:33 left and Jerrells hit another one a minute later to give the Bears their first lead, at 31-30. Sloan converted a three-point play and Beau Muhlbach swished a 3-pointer from the top of the key as the Aggies took back the lead for good. Jordan grabbed an offensive rebound and emphatically dunked with 2:23 left to give A&M a 53-47 lead. After another Baylor miss, 5-foot-10 Carter ran into the 6-9 Jones near midcourt and crumpled to the floor. The screen left Sloan open for an easy basket that stretched the lead to 55-47. The Aggies kept their poise and made 12 of 13 free throws in the closing minutes, something they failed to do when the teams met the first time. Baylor's LaceDarius Dunn was called for a technical foul with 1:01 left, prompting loud boos. Fans threw plastic soda bottles onto the floor as the Aggies trotted off the floor after the game with smiles on their faces.

Inside Dish
• A&M is arguably the most balanced team in the Big 12 with five players averaging between 9.2 and 11.6 points in conference play. The Aggies and Oklahoma State are the only league teams with four players averaging in double-figures in Big 12 play.
• A&M posted a perfect 1,000 APR (Academic Progress Rate) score for 2007-08.
• A&M is averaging 15.7 turnovers in its Big 12 losses, but only 10.0 in its league wins. A&M is 14-1 when it has 13 or fewer turnovers this season, but is 3-6 when it has more than 13 miscues.
• The narrow loss at No. 2 Oklahoma marked the first time A&M has lost when its "Big Three" -- Donald Sloan and Bryan Davis -- have each scored in double figures. A&M is 12-1 when the trio all scores in double figures, including an 8-1 mark this season.
• A&M's 80 home wins in the last four years are the second most in the nation in that period behind Memphis (85).
• A&M is 10-0 this year when its opponent scores 64 points or fewer. A&M is 11-0 when its scores 72 points or more.
• A&M made 71.7 percent from the free throw line in non-conference play, but ranks last in the Big 12 in league play at 65.2 percent. A&M leads the league in free throw attempts with 25.2 per game, but in its conference losses have made just 62.4 percent (its opponents have made 72.6 percent). A&M has made 69.3 percent in its Big 12 wins, outscoring its opponents by more than 10 points per game from the line.
• Junior Chinemelu Elonu may be the Big 12's most improved player this season. He leads the Big 12 in offensive rebounds (4.2) and ranks second in blocks (2.1) in league play. He has had a team-high seven double-doubles including three in conference play, the third most in the league. Elonu's season field goal percentage of .639 ranks 11th nationally (min. 125 FGA).
• Senior Josh Carter owns the school record for career three-point field goals with 271, which ranks fifth in Big 12 history. Carter is one of just two players in A&M history to score 1,400 points with 400 rebounds and 200 assists.
• Carter leads the Big 12 in free throw percentage (.871, 74-85), ranking 22nd nationally. The school record for a season is .865 by Mike Floyd in 1974-75. A&M is 61-14 when Carter scores in double figures but just 30-20 when he doesn't hit at least 10. A two-time honorable mention All-Big 12 pick, Carter was a second-team preseason selection.
• Carter has started in 94 straight games -- every game since the start of his sophomore season. He has played in all 125 career games and is on track to break the school record of 132 by Dominique Kirk (2004-08). With a 91-34 (.728) career record, Carter needs five more victories to become the winningest player in school history.
• Junior Bryan Davis ranks second on the team in rebounds (6.1) and blocks (30) and was named to the all-tournament team at the South Padre Island Invitational. A&M is 23-4 when Davis scores in double figures.
• Junior Donald Sloan has started in 60 straight games since the start of his sophomore year (2007-08). He scored 17 points and made 3-of-4 three-pointers at Texas and added 15 in the win against Oklahoma State. Sloan leads the team in assists (3.2). A&M is 35-6 when Sloan hands out at least 3 assists.
• Sophomore B.J. Holmes scored a career-high 24 points in the win against Tech and made 6-of-7 three-pointers (.857), tying for the fourth-best percentage in school history. He made six straight treys against Tech, tying the Big 12 record. Holmes ranks among the top scoring bench players in the Big 12, averaging 9.2 points in league play. He hit a rainbow three-pointer with two seconds left to send the Alabama game into overtime. A&M is 11-3 in his career when he scores at least 8 points and is 23-8 when he makes at least one three-pointer.
• Junior Derrick Roland, one of the nation's premier defensive players, generally guards the opposing team's top offensive guard and in Big 12 play had limited those players to 12.3 points per game on just 34 percent shooting, including 28 percent from three-point range. He scored 10 points in the win against Baylor, making both his three-point tries, and added a season-high 4 assists. Roland held Arizona's Chase Budinger to just 3 points on 1-of-6 shooting in the second half of A&M's come-from-behind victory. He helped limit Texas' A.J. Abrams to just 9 points on 3-of-10 shooting (0-2 on three-pointers).
• Sophomore Nate Walkup has become the Aggies' new "Mr. Clutch" for making big shots in tight games. His trey against Arizona with 20 seconds left proved to be the game-winner. He hit a three-pointer with 14 seconds left at Alabama, which set up B.J. Holmes trey at the end of regulation that sent the game into overtime. Walkup also hit key baskets late in close games against Stephen F. Austin, SMU and Rice.
• Freshman Dash Harris has had 28 assists with just 17 turnovers in the last 12 games.
• Freshman David Loubeau has averaged 8.8 points and 5.5 rebounds in the last four games.
• He ranks second among Big 12 freshman in offensive rebounds (2.4) in conference play.
