COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The No. 19 Texas A&M softball team travels to Houston this weekend for five games against five opponents at the Marriott Houston Invitational. The Aggies face Northern Illinois, Prairie View A&M, McNeese State, Illinois and host, No. 18 Houston.
A&M begins play in the three-day tournament at 11 a.m. on Friday against Northern Illinois, followed by a 1 p.m. contest against Prairie View A&M. On Saturday, the Aggies take on McNeese State at 1 p.m. and Houston at 5 p.m. Texas A&M's final game of the invitational is against Illinois at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
The Aggies (5-6) dropped a midweek contest to Texas State, 3-2, on Wednesday, despite home runs by seniors Erin Glasco and Holly Ridley.
Sophomore Rhi Kliesing posts a 1.41 ERA with two shutouts and 38 strikeouts.
The Cougars (5-4) host their second tournament this weekend and split a midweek doubleheader against Baylor, winning game one, 2-1, and losing the nightcap, 9-4. Houston fell to the Bobcats last week, 2-0.
Prairie View A&M dropped a 5-2 decision to Sam Houston State on Wednesday and comes into the weekend with a 3-4 record. McNeese State (2-10) split a midweek doubleheader against Louisiana Tech and is hitting .176 with a team ERA of 6.66. Illinois (5-4) went 2-3 last weekend in Tampa, Fla., enters the tournament with a team batting average of .253 and a team ERA of 3.88.
