MORE ON WRIGHT STATE
Wright State (Dayton, Ohio) returns 19 letterwinners, seven position starters and four starting pitchers from a 2008 team that finished 30-23 and 16-6 in the Horizon League, one-half game behind league champion UIC-who played in the NCAA College Station Regional last May.
The Raiders were picked to finish second in the Horizon this year, behind UIC, by the league's head coaches.
Rob Cooper (124-105) is in his fifth season as head coach at Wright State, and will again be a member of the USA Baseball national team coaching staff this summer. He has led the Raiders to three-straight 30-win seasons.

SERIES HISTORY
Texas A&M and Wright State will meet for the first time on the baseball diamond this weekend.
In fact, the Aggies have played just one game against current members of the Horizon League, and it was last year's NCAA Regional-opening victory over UIC at Olsen Field.
Texas A&M is 10-9 all-time against teams from the state of Ohio. Ohio State (7-9) is the most common opponent, followed by Miami University (2-0) and Bowling Green (1-0).
WSU is one of three "new" opponents for A&M in 2009 along with Prairie View and UC Irvine.
UP NEXT
Texas A&M will wrap up its six-game homestand with games against Centenary on Tuesday (6:35 p.m.) and Wednesday (3:05 p.m.) before heading to the Houston College Classic. Tuesday's game will be the season opener for the Gents.
VIEW FROM THE TOP
While Texas A&M is opening the year as the No. 1-ranked team for the first time in program history, it's certainly not the first time the Aggies have sat atop the national polls.
The last time A&M held the top spot in the nation was in the May 17, 1999 edition of the Baseball America poll.
The Aggies have held the No. 1 spot in three previous seasons, for a total of 17 weeks, and sport an all-time record of 51-13 (.797).

Texas A&M's previous high water mark in the BA preseason poll was No. 6 in 1988.
BRING IT ON
Not only will Texas A&M have a bullseye on its back as the nation's No. 1 team to start the year, but the Aggies are playing one of their most difficult schedules in recent memory this spring.
A&M will face six of the other nine teams in the Baseball America preseason rankings, playing a total of 13 games against the group that includes No. 4 Texas, No. 5 Cal State Fullerton, No. 7 Rice, No. 8 Baylor, No. 9 UC Irvine and No. 10 Missouri.
The Aggies will also close the season with a series at Oklahoma, who earned the No. 16 spot in the rankings.
Including Oklahoma State, which appears in the top 15 of three other polls, A&M is scheduled to play at least 19 games against teams ranked in the top 16 nationally.
Nearly half of the Aggies' games in 2009 will be against teams who made the NCAA Tournament last June...

               Houston              Sam Houston State

All but five of A&M's 2009 opponents finished last year at .500 or better.
AGGIES PICKED NO. 1 IN BIG 12 PRESEASON POLL
Texas A&M was picked to successfully defend its regular-season championship in a vote by the Big 12's head coaches...
               Team (1st Place Votes) Points
               1.           Texas A&M (9) 91

               8.           Texas Tech         25
               9.           Kansas State     15
               10.         Kansas 11
It marked the second time in the 13-year history of the league, and the first time since 1999, that the Aggies claimed the top spot in the preseason poll.
It was also the first time since 2001 that a team other than Texas was pegged to win the league.
HOUSTON COLLEGE CLASSIC
The Aggies will participate in the ninth-annual Houston College Classic next weekend at Minute Maid Park, the home of the Houston Astros.
The six-team field is perhaps the strongest in the history of the event, as five of the six participating schools are ranked in the top 12 of the Baseball America preseason poll.
Joining No. 1-ranked A&M are No. 7 Rice, No. 8 Baylor, No. 9 UC Irvine, No. 12 UCLA and Houston.
The Aggies will meet UCI for the first time in school history in the tournament's opening game on Friday at noon. A&M and Rice will clash in the weekend's marquee game on Saturday at 7 p.m., and the Aggies will close out play on Sunday at 6 p.m. against Houston in a rematch of the 2008 NCAA College Station Regional final.
Tickets for the College Classic are available now and can be purchased online at astros.com, at the Minute Maid Park Box Office, or by calling Ticketmaster at 1-877-9ASTROS. Tickets may also be purchased at all of the Astros regular Houston-area Ticketmaster outlets. ANDERS NAMED TO GOLDEN SPIKES AWARD WATCH LIST
Texas A&M senior first baseman Luke Anders was named to the preseason Golden Spikes Award watch list by USA Baseball on February 17.
Sponsored by Major League Baseball, the Golden Spikes Award will be presented in 2009 for the 32nd time and marks the organization's first step toward identifying the top player in college baseball. The watch list features 50 of the nation's top collegiate talents, and it will be a "rolling" list to ensure that athletes can play themselves into consideration for the Golden Spikes Award.
Anders is one of five Big 12 players on the list and the only position player selected from the league, joining pitchers Kendal Volz (Baylor), Kyle Gibson (Missouri), and Andrew Oliver and Tyler Lyons (Oklahoma State).
On May 26, USA Baseball officials will cut the watch list of players to 30 names. The final list of 30 will then be sent to a voting body consisting of select professional baseball personnel, past USA Baseball National Team coaches, select members of the media, former USA Baseball sports information directors, and current USA Baseball staff - close to 150 voters in total.
Fan voting will once again be a part of the Golden Spikes Award in 2009, beginning May 26. On June 2, USA Baseball will announce the five finalists, and voting will once again commence that same day.
The 2009 USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award will be presented nationally July 15 on an award show via live telecast from St. Louis in conjunction with the 2009 Major League Baseball All-Star Weekend Festivities.
STARLING, THEBEAU IN HUNT FOR "STOPPER OF YEAR" AWARD
Junior Kyle Thebeau were among 40 players named to the Stopper of the Year Award watch list by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association on February 17.
Joining them on the list from the Big 12 were Kansas' Paul Smyth and K-State's Thomas Rooke.
The initial list will be updated with a mid-season release the week of April 16, including the national saves leaders. At the conclusion of the regular season, the Division I national saves leader and four other relief pitching standouts will be selected as finalists and released Wednesday, May 27, prior to start of NCAA regional tournament competition.
The NCBWA's All-America Committee will then select the winner, with this year's recipient to be announced in early June.
Texas hurler J. Brent Cox won the inaugural Stopper of the Year Award in 2005, with Don Czyz of Kansas claiming the honor in 2006, Luke Prihoda of Sam Houston State winning it in 2007 and Georgia's Josh Fields topping the field in 2008.
