Last Time They Met
COLLEGE STATION (AP, Feb. 23, 2008) -- Sek Henry hit two 3-pointers in the last 5 minutes to help Nebraska to a 65-59 victory over No. 22 Texas A&M, their second straight win over a ranked team. With about 6 minutes to go, freshman Cookie Miller crashed into Dominique Kirk and remained on the court writhing in pain for several minutes. The 5-foot-7 Miller, who was called for the foul, injured his left shoulder and was taken to the locker room by trainers. The Aggies took a 53-50 lead less than 2 minutes later after a 9-2 run fueled by 3-pointers by Kirk and Donald Sloan. Henry's 3-pointer seconds later tied it and a jumper by Steve Harley put Nebraska back on top. The teams exchanged layups and the Cornhuskers went ahead 57-55 before a layup by Sloan tied it again. Henry hit another 3-pointer with 1:23 to go before Jay-R Strowbridge made a free throw that gave Nebraska a 61-57 lead with 35 seconds to play. The Aggies lost the ball on a bad pass and were forced to foul. Henry missed both shots, but Nebraska got the rebound. Harley hit both free throws after another foul to make it 63-57 with 17 seconds left. Derrick Roland's slam dunk made it 63-59 but A&M had to foul again. Harley hit two more free throws to secure the win. Roland led A&M with 13 points. A&M's first-half shooting woes continued after halftime and the Aggies went without a field goal for an almost 7 1/2-minute span in the second half. A three-point play by Sloan finally broke the drought and made it 46-41. A 3-pointer by Kirk after a layup by Nebraska's Ade Dagunduro got A&M within 48-44.
Last Time in Lincoln
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP, Feb. 10, 2007) - Dominique Kirk 10 for the Aggies. Ryan Anderson scored all 18 of his points - on six 3-pointers - in the first half to lead Nebraska. Aleks Maric had all 15 of his points in the second half, and Marcus Perry added 11 for the Huskers.

Texas Tech Recap
LUBBOCK -- Texas A&M likely would have routed Texas Tech had it not missed 21 free throws. But the Aggies made enough of them to beat the Red Raiders 79-73 Saturday night despite being awful from the line. Mark Turgeon said Elonu continues to improve. "I don't know the league well enough, but most improved player from one year to the next, I'm sure Chin's gonna be right there if they even have an award like that," he said. "He'll be right there for it. He played well today." The Aggies trailed only a few times in the second half and never more than two points. Both teams went to the free throw line often but the Aggies had more than twice the attempts (51) as did the Red Raiders (22). There were 56 fouls called in the game and four Tech players fouled out. Josh Carter added 20 points for the Aggies (19-8, 5-7 Big 12), hitting four of his six attempts from 3-point range. Alan Voskuil and John Roberson scored 16 each, and Nick Okorie added 14 to lead the Red Raiders (12-15, 2-10). The loss was the fourth straight for Tech. "Our guards made good decisions to read it and get him the ball in position to make shots. Josh wasn't very good today, but he had 20 points. He was not very good at the foul line, I didn't think he was very good at defending and he wasn't good with the ball. He did rebound well for us. He had five defensive rebounds. But he seemed tired to me."
Hoops Success
- A&M needs one more victory for its fifth straight 20-win season. Before the 2004-05 season, A&M had only six 20-win seasons in its entire history.
- A&M, Kansas and Texas are the only three Big 12 schools that have won at least 20 games in each of the last four years. Only 23 schools in the nation have won at least 20 games in each of the last four seasons.
- A&M also is looking for its fourth straight NCAA Tournament appearance. Prior to this streak, A&M had never made consecutive NCAA appearances. Including the 2005 NIT, A&M has advanced to postseason play four straight years.
- A&M is 4-3 NCAA Tournament play in the last three years. Prior to that, A&M was just 3-7 in NCAA Tournament games in its history.
- A&M's three NCAA losses in the last three years were by an average of 1.7 points with each game decided in the final 10 seconds.
- A&M is one of just eight schools that have advanced past the first round of the NCAA Tournament in each of the last three seasons.
- A&M is the only Big 12 school -- and one of just four schools nationally --Â to win at least one postseason game in each of the last four seasons (1 NIT/3 NCAA Tournaments). The others are North Carolina (4 NCAAs), Georgetown (1 NIT/3 NCAAs) and Memphis (1 NIT/3 NCAAs).
Academic Success
- When the NCAA adopted the Academic Progress Rate (APR) as its standard for measuring the academic success of its member schools in 2004, Texas A&M did not meet the minimum score of 925 and lost a scholarship for the 2004-05 season. The program's APR for 2007-08 improved to a perfect score of 1,000.
- All nine Aggies seniors have graduated in the last two seasons and seniors Josh Carter and Bryson Graham are on schedule to graduate this year.
NBA Presence
- A&M has produced three NBA Draft picks in the last four years. , including first round choices Acie Law IV (2007, Atlanta Hawks) and Antoine Wright (2005, New Jersey Nets). DeAndre Jordan was a second-round pick by the Los Angeles Clippers in 2008.
- Prior to 2005, A&M had not produced an NBA Draft pick since 1987. A&M's never had more than one active NBA player before now.
- Law, Wright and Jordan have each started in NBA games this season.
Tough Competition
- A&M's schedule is the 27th-strongest in the nation according to rpiratings.com. The Aggies have an official NCAA RPI of 38.
- Nine of A&M's first 12 league opponents were ranked among the top 50 in the RPI and 11 were in the top 100.
- Saturday's game at Texas Tech (122 RPI) marked the first time A&M played a team outside the top 100 since it faced North Dakota on Jan. 5.
- A&M is the only team in Big 12 history to play every team in the top half of the preseason coaches poll in its first five games. Three of those games were on the road at three of the toughest venues in the country (Oklahoma State, defending NCAA champion Kansas and No. 11 Texas), while the other two were at home against ranked teams (No. 21 Baylor, No. 5 OU).
Coach Turgeon
- A former player and assistant coach at Kansas, 44-year-old Mark Turgeon is in his second season at Texas A&M. He cut his coaching teeth at Kansas under legends Larry Brown and Roy Williams.
- Turgeon's 44-19 record matches the best coaching start in A&M history and the second-best in the Big 12's 13-year history. Kansas' Bill Self was 47-16 after 63 games in 2003-05 and Billy Gillispie was 44-19 at A&M in 2004-06.
- Turgeon led the Aggies to a 25-11 record last year, the third most wins in school history. A&M advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, dropping a close 51-49 decision to No. 1-seed UCLA.
- Turgeon's 25 wins last season were the most by a Big 12 coach in his debut and tied for the most by a first-year coach in the history of any Big 12 school. Tom Penders went 25-9 in his first year at Texas in 1988-89 prior to the Big 12.Â
- Turgeon needs one more win to notch his fifth 20-win season in the last six seasons. His teams have advanced to postseason play five times in the previous six years.
