IRVING, Texas - For the second time this season, Texas A&M women's basketball player Sydney Carter (DeSoto, Texas) was named Phillips 66 Big 12 Conference Freshman of the Week by a media voting panel for games of Feb. 23-March 1 on Monday.

Carter, a 5-foot-6 reserve point guard, guided the No. 10-ranked Aggies to a 2-0 week and back-to-back wins over top 25 opponents including a 57-56 victory over No. 2 Oklahoma on Feb. 23 and the Aggies' second-ever win on the road at No. 15 Kansas State (71-45) on March 1. She previously received weekly honors on Dec. 1.

For the week, Carter averaged 14.0 points, 2.0 steals, 2.0 assists and a 4.00 assist-to-turnover ratio off the bench against the Sooners and Wildcats combined. She also shot a team-leading 57.9 percent from the floor (11-of-19), 57.1 percent (4-of-7) from beyond the three-point arc and 2-for-2 from the charity stripe.

Carter recorded back-to-back games in double figures for the first time of her career with 11 points in a career-high 31 minutes of action versus OU and a game-high and career-high tying 17 points at K-State. It marked her third double-digit game against a Big 12 opponent and fourth overall this season. She also had two key steals in the second half of play which sparked an A&M run against the Sooners. Carter currently ranks ninth among Big 12 freshmen leaders in scoring (4.8 ppg), third in three-point field goal percentage (42.6), fifth in steals (1.1) and third in assists (1.6).
