COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The third-ranked Texas A&M baseball team plays host to one of the most anticipated non-conference matchups in recent years at Olsen Field when the Aggies battle No. 4 Cal State Fullerton on Tuesday evening. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. and the game will air regionally on COX Sports TV.
A&M (11-3) is coming off a 4-1 week in which the Aggies swept a pair from Stephen F. Austin and took two of three from Utah. The Aggies rallied for two runs in the bottom of the ninth on Sunday to down the Utes, 12-11.
The Titans, meanwhile, have won eight in a row after dropping a season-opening series to TCU. Fullerton (9-2), in the midst of a nine-game road trip, has averaged 11 runs per game in their last four contests--including a three-game sweep this past weekend at Southern Miss.
Cal State Fullerton, making its first trip to Olsen Field since 1983, has won two of the four all-time meetings with A&M. The teams last met in the Aggies' final game of the 1999 College World Series in Omaha.
Texas A&M is hitting .296 as a team with 20 home runs and 22 stolen bases and is averaging 7.1 runs per game, while the Titans sport a .306 batting average, 16 home runs and 20 stolen bases, and enter Tuesday's game averaging 8.3 runs per contest.
Junior Clayton Ehlert (1-0, 3.65 ERA) will take the mound for A&M and will face Titan freshman Noe Ramirez (2-0, 1.98). The Aggie staff has been very impressive early in the season, with a 2.86 team ERA, a .208 opponent average and 145 strikeouts. Fullerton pitchers sport a 3.91 ERA and are holding opposing hitters to a .249 average.
