Nel Qualifies for NCAAs, Sehn Takes 3m Zone Crown

Texas A&M freshman diver Grant Nel became the ninth member of the Aggie men's swimming and diving team to qualify for the 2009 NCAA Championships by placing second at the Zone D Qualifier on Saturday at the University of Missouri Aquatic Center.

Texas A&M divers grabbed three of the top four spots in the competition with senior Eric Sehn taking first with 823.95 points, Nel finishing second with 784.55 and freshman Cam McLean placing fourth with 721.05. Junior Henry Stevens placed 14th with 560.00 points.

Sehn had already guaranteed his spot at the NCAA meet, which will be hosted by A&M at the Student Recreation Natatorium March 26-28, with a runner-up finish in the one-meter on Friday. Sehn was the top scorer in the prelims and finals with a 411.85 point total in the early session a score of 412.10 in the final. Nel had the third-highest score in the prelims with a 378.30 but turned in a 406.25 in the final.
