LAMANGA, Spain - Texas A&M freshman Brianne Young played for the U.S. Under-20 Women's National Team in the 10 Nations Tournament in La Manga, Spain this week.
From Castle Pines North, Colo., Young was one of five defenders on the roster and is the first Aggie to play for the U-20 WNT this year as sophomore Alyssa Mautz was a member of the team for the 2008 FIFA U-20 World Cup in November.
The U.S. U-20 WNT competed against European U-20 teams defeating the Norway U-20s, 3-2 (March 9) and ended in a 1-1 draw with the France U-20s (March 12).
The matches help prepare the USA to qualify for the 2010 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup that will be held in Germany.
Young started on the backline in every match for Texas A&M earning several postseason honors. She was selected to the Soccer Buzz All-American third team and Freshman All-American first team, Soccer America's All-Freshman first team, Soccer Buzz Central Region Freshman of the Year and took All-Central Region first team honors. Young was also named to the NSCAA/adidas All-Central Region team and the All-Big 12 Second Team and Big 12 All-Newcomer Team.
