HONOLULU - Senior Lauren Johnson fired a one-under-par 71 on Monday to lead Texas A&M into a tie for fifth place after the opening round of the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational at Kanehoe Klipper Golf Course.
The Aggies posted a team score of 306 and trail leader Idaho by nine strokes going into Tuesday's second round. Nevada and Osaka Gakuin are tied for second at 303, followed by Kansas State (305). A&M is tied with Hawaii and Boise State.
Johnson is tied for second in the individual standings, two shots behind Idaho's Kayla Mortellaro (69).
A&M sophomore Ashley Freeman is tied for 36th (80), sophomore Stephanie Smith is tied for 42nd (81) and freshman Kaitlin Hovda is tied for 47th (82).
