AUSTIN - The Texas A&M women's golf team carded a 311 on Friday and is in 16th place after the opening round of the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational at the University of Texas Golf Club. The tournament continues through Sunday.
The Aggies won the Thompson Invitational in Hawaii on Wednesday and traveled directly to Austin.
Arizona State leads at 287, followed by Arkansas (288), Vanderbilt (291), Purdue (291), New Mexico (292), Notre Dame (296), Duke (299), Oklahoma (302), Furman (302), Central Florida (303), Chattanooga (304), Arizona (306), Texas (307), Tulsa (308), South Carolina (310), A&M (311) and Florida State (317).
Six players are tied for first in the individual standings after firing two-under-par 70s.
A&M senior Lauren Johnson (76) is tied for 44th, junior Ashley Freeman (78) and sophomore Stephanie Smith (79) is tied for 64th and freshman Kaitlin Hovda (84) is tied for 87th.
