Texas A&M junior Ashley Freeman fired a two-under par 70 to climb into a tie for 18th at the Betsy Rawls Invitational on Saturday at the University of Texas Golf Club.
Freeman's round was the second-lowest of the day behind the 69 shot by second-round leader Maria Hernandez of Purdue (70-69=139), and it allowed Freeman to climb 40 spots on the individual leaderboard (78-70=148).
Led by Freeman, the Aggies shot a 301 on Saturday and jumped seven teams to ninth place on the team leaderboard (311-301=612). Only four teams bettered the Aggies' team score in the second round.
"We are starting to put things together as a team," Aggie head coach Trelle McCombs said. "We had a great round out of Ashley today, which was a lot of fun to watch. She played really solid all day. If we stick to our game plan and play steady golf, we can have a good finish to cap off a great week. We've played a lot of golf this week, but I think this will show the girls what they are made of."
Sophomore Lauren Johnson is tied for 45th (76-78=154), sophomore Stephanie Smith (74-78=157), and freshman Kaitlin Hovda is tied 88th (84-84=168)
