AUSTIN - Junior Ashley Freeman fired her second straight two-under-par 70 on Sunday to lead Texas A&M to a tie for seventh at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational at the University of Texas Golf Club.
No. 12-ranked Purdue captured the title with an 872 total, followed by No. 1 Arizona State (878), No. 24 Arkansas (880), New Mexico (891), No. 8 Duke (897), Notre Dame (915), A&M (311-301-306=918), Furman (918), Texas (919), No. 13 Vanderbilt (922), Oklahoma (922), South Carolina (929), Tulsa (929), Chattanooga (930), No. 21 Arizona (932), Florida State (933) and Central Florida (950).
Purdue's Maria Hernandez (70-69-71=210) won the individual title. Freeman (78-70-70=218) tied for fifth.
A&M sophomore Lauren Johnson (76-78-80=234) tied for 50th, sophomore Stephanie Smith (79-78-82=239) tied for 66th and freshman Kaitlin Hovda (84-84-83=251) placed 88th.
The Aggies play in the PING/Arizona State Invitational April 3-5 in Tempe, Ariz., their final tuneup for the Big 12 Championship April 24-26 in Lubbock.
