Texas A&M vs. Texas Tech Match Results![]()
RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. - No. 13-ranked Texas Tech edged No. 20 Texas A&M, 3-2, on Tuesday to capture seventh place at The Callaway Collegiate Match Play Championship at The Farms Golf Club.
Senior Bronson Burgoon and junior Andrea Pavan dominated their individual matches against the Red Raiders, with Burgoon posting a 3 and 1 win over Nils Floren and Pavan cruising to a 5 and 4 victory against Santiago Rivas.
Matt Van Zandt fell to Will Griffin (3 and 2).
"We played hard today but you have to tip your hat to Texas Tech," A&M Coach J.T. Higgins said. "In the three matches we lost, their players all shot par or better. Bronson and Andrea had great tournaments, playing well in medal play and winning a couple of matches. We're excited about how we're playing and are looking forward to our next tournament."
A&M finished fourth in medal play qualifying on Sunday as Burgoon tied for second and Pavan tied for fourth individually.
In other tournament results, Middle Tennessee State upset No. 9 Indiana 4-1 to win the championship, No. 19 UCLA clipped No. 25 Florida State by the third tiebreaker in the third-place match, No. 5 Stanford downed San Diego State for fifth and No. 8 Alabama claimed the consolation title over San Diego. Duke, No. 9 Arizona State and UC Irvine all won their final matches in the consolation bracket.
The Aggies are back in action at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate starting on Monday at the UT Golf Club in Austin.
