SAN FRANCISCO - Former Texas A&M All-American soccer players Kati Jo Spisak and Ashlee Pistorius will play in the Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) league, it was announced Wednesday.

Spisak, of Manchester, Mo., was one of the 22 players (18 players with four developmental players) listed on the Washington Freedom's roster. From Bloomington, Ill., Pistorius successfully became a member of the Saint Louis Athletica.

WPS is the highest level women's professional soccer league in North America. The inaugural WPS season kicks off on March 29, 2009 and runs through August 22, 2009 with the WPS Championship.

Spisak, who lifted A&M to five Big 12 titles while in goal for the Aggies, is one of two goalkeepers for the Freedom. She was a member of the Washington Freedom in the United Soccer League's W-League since 2007. In her four-year stint at A&M, Spisak climbed to the top of the Aggie record books, holding the No. 1 spot for most career saves (291) and most minutes in goal (8559:18). Spisak was a four-year member of the Soccer Buzz All-Central Region team and was an NSCAA All-American in 2003.

Pistorius, a four-time All-American, is one of five forwards on the Saint Louis Athletica roster. She is the all-time goals (81) and points (194) leader for Texas A&M and also broke the Big 12's career records in both categories. As a senior, Pistorius led the nation in goals scored (25) and was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year.
