COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Texas A&M women's tennis team looks to extend its three-match winning streak this weekend as the Aggies hit the road to take on Big 12 Conference foes Nebraska and Iowa State.
The Aggies face No. 60 Nebraska Friday at 1 p.m. at the Nebraska Tennis Center in Lincoln and then head to Ames, Iowa, to meet the Cyclones Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at the Ames Racquet & Fitness indoor courts. Live scoring of both matches will be available at AggieAthletics.com.
The Aggies won their third consecutive match and improved to 7-6 overall and 3-1 in the Big 12 by defeating Oklahoma, 5-2, Sunday in College Station. It was A&M's 13th straight win in the series against the Sooners.
Sophomore Morgan Frank (Oldsmar, Fla.) improved to 4-0 in Big 12 singles matches, all at the No. 2 line, and leads A&M with a 9-4 record in dual matches. She is ranked No. 113 in the most recent ITA national singles rankings, released March 17.
Frank's four-match winning streak is the longest on the team, followed by freshman Sheri Olivier (Topeka, Kan.) who has won three straight singles matches - one at the No. 5 line and the last two at No. 6. Sophomore Christi Liles (Largo, Fla.) has won her last two matches, both at the No. 3 line.
Olivier and junior Elzé Potgieter (Bloemfontein, South Africa) lead A&M in doubles victories with a 9-2 record at the No. 3 line, including 3-1 in Big 12 matches. They are riding a three-match winning streak.
Nebraska is ranked No. 60 in the nation with a 10-2 record, including 2-1 in Big 12 matches. The Huskers were shut out, 7-0, at No. 4 Baylor in their most recent outing. They were scheduled to play at Texas Tech on Monday, but the match was rescheduled because of high winds.
Iowa State is 8-6 overall, 1-4 in the Big 12, entering a home match against Texas on Friday. Most recently, the Cyclones fell to Texas Tech, 6-1, Sunday in Lubbock.
The Aggies are 12-3 in the all-time series against Nebraska, including 7-0 victories in each of the last two meetings. The Huskers last defeated A&M in 2006, as Nebraska defeated the Aggies, 5-2, in Lincoln.
A&M is 12-0 against Iowa State. The Cyclones have not scored a point in the last five meetings against the Aggies and have posted only one point in seven of the last eight meetings with A&M.
