TEMPE, Ariz. - The Texas A&M women's golf team opened with a 23-over-par 311 in windy conditions on Friday and is in 17th place at the PING/Arizona State Invitational at the Karsten Golf Course.
The tournament continues through Sunday.
The Aggies were just 10-over through 15 holes, but played the final three holes in 13-over.
Purdue shot a five-over 293 to take a one-stroke lead over Arizona State (294) atop the team standings. UCLA, Southern California and Oklahoma State are tied for third at 297, followed by New Mexico (298), Arizona (299), Oregon (300), Denver (301), Stanford (302), Pepperdine (303), Tulsa (303), Vanderbilt (306), California (308), Central Florida (308), Colorado (310) and A&M (311).
New Mexico's Jodi Ewart and USC's Jennifer Song share the individual lead after firing two-under 70s.
A&M sophomore Stephanie Smith is tied for 20th (74), sophomore Ashley Freeman is toed for 76th (80), senior Lauren Johnson is tied for 81st (81) and sophomore Alexa Porter is tied for 88th (85).
