HOUSTON - The Texas A&M volleyball team was impressive in its spring season opener, winning all four matches at the 4th Annual Texas Tornados College Spring Tournament at the Texas Tornados Training Facility.
The Aggies dropped the first set of their opening match against TCU, 25-21, but came back to take the second set, 25-20. With matches being best two-out-of-three sets with the first two sets played to 25 points and the third set going to 15 points, A&M held off the Horned Frogs, 16-14, in the third and deciding set.
A&M then posted sweeps against Denver, 25-18, 25-13, and North Texas, 25-13, 25-23, before taking on Wichita State, which was No. 18 in the final American Volleyball Coaches Association Top 25 Poll after advancing to the second round of the NCAA tournament last season.
A&M swept the Shockers, 25-19, 25-23, to close out the tournament.
Spring matches are considered exhibition, and results do not count toward a team's record.
The Aggies conclude the spring season April 18 at the Baylor Spring Tournament in Waco.
A&M coach Laurie Corbelli returns nine letterwinners from last year's team that finished 16-14, including 11-9 in the Big 12, tying NCAA regional finalist and 12th-ranked Iowa State for fourth place in the conference standings.
