COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Former Texas A&M men's tennis player Lester Cook (Sherman Oaks, Calif.) reached the quarterfinals in both the singles and doubles main draw at the Price Leblanc Lexus Pro Tennis Classic held in Baton Rouge, La.
Cook, a three-time All-American who played for the Aggies from 2002-04, defeated Frederic Niemeyer of Canada, 6-1, 6-1, in first-round action followed by a 7-6 (5), 7-5 win over former University of Virginia All-American and eighth-seeded Somdev Devvarman of India in the second round. He later fell in straight sets to American Rajeev Ram, 6-3, 6-1, in the quarterfinals.
In doubles competition, Cook teamed up with American Shane Laporte for a straight-set victory over Americans Ryler de Heart and Nick Monroe, 6-2, 6-4, in the opening round. Cook and Laporte eventually lost a third-set super tiebreaker versus Harsh Mankad and Scott Oudsema in the quarterfinals, 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (8).
