COLLEGE STATION - Texas A&M junior swimmer Ella Doerge (Clive, Iowa) was named the athletic department representative for the Chick-fil-A Community of Champions award for the spring semester, the Big 12 office announced on Thursday.

During the fall, winter, and spring semesters, one athlete from each school in the Big 12 Conference is honored based on their strong academic standing (above a 3.0 grade-point average), community service involvement, and leadership on and off the playing surface.

The 20-year-old all-conference swimmer currently holds a cumulative 4.0 GPA in genetics. Doerge earned the bronze medal in the 100-yard butterfly at the 2009 Big 12 Championships in February while also placing fourth in the 100 backstroke and ninth in the 200 back.
