IRVING, Texas - The Texas A&M men's and women's tennis teams are among the top seeds in the upcoming Big 12 Conference Men's and Women's Tennis Championships to be held on April 23-26 at the Headington Family Tennis Center on the campus of host Oklahoma in Norman, Okla.
The A&M men (14-7, 5-1) secured the No. 2 seed by edging in-state rival and No. 3 seed Texas (17-5, 4-2) by a count of 4-3 in their regular-season home finale on April 16. It marked the Aggies' highest finish in league play since 2005. Undefeated Baylor (21-5, 6-0) earned the No. 1 seed and claimed the regular-season title outright with a 7-0 shutout of No. 4 seed Oklahoma State (13-6, 3-3) on Sunday.
The men's tournament field is scheduled to begin on Friday, April 24. A&M will take on No. 7 seed Nebraska (16-9, 0-6) in the quarterfinals at noon (CT). The winner will then move on to face either Texas or No. 6 seed Oklahoma (12-9, 1-5) in the semifinals on Saturday, April 25 at noon (CT).
Meanwhile, the A&M women (13-9, 9-2) clinched a first-round bye and the No. 3 seed with a 6-1 rout of No. 9 seed Kansas (10-12, 4-7) on Sunday. Top-seeded Baylor (20-4, 10-0) also turned in a perfect season for the league regular-season crown. The Aggies will meet the winner between No. 6 seed Oklahoma State (12-11, 5-6) and No. 11 seed Iowa State (10-12, 1-10) in quarterfinal action held on Friday, April 24 at 6 p.m. (CT).
