IRVING, Texas - Texas A&M senior All-American Conor Pollock (pronounced PAUL-luck) earned his second career Big 12 Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week nod for matches of April 13-19 on Monday.
A two-time All-Big 12 singles selection from San Antonio, Texas, Pollock led the Aggies to a 4-3 victory over No. 14 Texas in the State Farm Lone Star Showdown on April 16. He currently ranks 18th all-time in the A&M record books with 59 career singles victories and 10th all-time with 62 career doubles victories. Pollock is among a select few players in school history to earn weekly honors on more than one occasion next to four-time honoree Lester Cook (2002-04), three-time honoree Ryan Newport (2000-03), two-time honoree Ante Matijevic (2002-04) and seven-time honoree Shuon Madden (1998-01). He previously received player of the week honors on March 16.
In his final regular-season home match against Texas, Pollock defeated No. 21-ranked Dimitar Kutrovsky, 7-5, 1-6, 6-4, to clinch the Aggies' first win over the Longhorns since 2005 which ended a six-match losing skid in the all-time series. It also marked the first-ever victory over UT in the Steve Denton Era and first in six tries for Pollock who was honored prior to the match on Senior Night. The win also secured a No. 2 seed for A&M in the upcoming Big 12 Men's Tennis Championship and its highest finish in league play since 2005.
Pollock has put together an impressive 13-8 record in dual match play and a 4-2 mark versus Big 12 opponents at No. 1 singles for the Aggies. He also added a straight-set victory over No. 48-ranked and top player Bruno Rosa of Rice, 6-2, 6-3, on April 13.
In doubles action, Pollock turned in a perfect 2-0 week at the No. 1 line with sophomore All-American teammate Austin Krajicek (Brandon, Fla.). The Aggies' top doubles tandem is currently ranked No. 8 nationally in the ITA rankings. They claimed an 8-4 win over No. 27-ranked Ed Corrie and Kellen Damico of Texas and an 8-3 victory over No. 52-ranked Christoph Müller and Tobias Scheil of Rice to close out the regular season with an impressive 17-4 dual record which included wins in their last three-straight matches.
