DALY CITY, Calif. - Matt Van Zandt and Andrea Pavan each carded one-under-par 71s on Friday as No. 12-ranked Texas A&M moved into fourth place after two rounds of the NCAA Men's Golf West Regional at the Lake Merced Golf Club.

The Aggies' shot two-under (286) for a 36-hole total of 567. No. 14 Arizona State leads at 554, while Oregon (560) and San Diego (566) also are ahead of A&M going into Saturday's final round. The top five teams will advance to the national finals May 26-30 in Toledo, Ohio.

No. 2 Southern California (569) is in fifth, followed by San Francisco (571), New Mexico (572), San Diego State (573), UC-Irvine (576), Oregon State (583), UC Davis (583), Colorado (585) and Kansas State (586).

A&M's John Hurley (67-72=139) is tied for fifth individually, five strokes behind leader Jesper Kennegard of Arizona State (66-68=134). The low individual not on a qualifying team also will advance to the national finals.

"We just didn't have any putts drop and didn't convert the opportunities we had," A&M Coach J.T. Higgins said. "But we are playing pretty well and are right there as far as advancing. If we can come out tomorrow and play loose I think we'll be okay. If we take care of ourselves the results will follow."

A&M's Bronson Burgoon (69-72=141) is tied for 13th, Pavan (72-71=143) is tied for 20th, Van Zandt (73-71=144) is tied for 27th and Nacho Elvira (75-73=148) is tied for 56th.
