A school-record three men's singles players and one doubles team will represent Texas A&M in the 2009 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Tennis Individual Championships which gets underway on Wednesday, May 20 at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center.

Senior All-American Conor Pollock (San Antonio, Texas) is one of 16 top seeds in the 64-player men's singles draw and is currently ranked No. 17 nationally in the Campbell/ITA rankings. He will face No. 88-ranked Aleksandr Seleznev of Old Dominion in an opening-round match scheduled for Wednesday at 5 p.m. (CT). Singles competition on both the men's and women's side begins at 10 a.m. (CT).

Pollock, originally unseeded, moved into the 9-16 position after Daniel Vallverdu of Miami withdrew from the field. He is the first seeded Aggie to compete in the NCAA singles draw since former two-time All-American Jerry Makowski who was a No. 9-16 seed in 2006. Pollock is 16-9 in dual match play this season and is making his second-straight appearance in the individual tournament. He also earns his first All-America nod in singles by virtue of being a top 16 seed in the NCAA Singles Championship. Last year, he earned All-America honors in doubles.

He is joined in postseason competition by sophomore All-American Wil Spencer (Ponce de Leon, Fla.). Both Aggie Floridians are ranked No. 47 and 48 respectively. A&M is one of only four schools in the nation to have three players in the singles draw next to top-ranked Virginia, third-ranked Ohio State and second-ranked Mississippi.

Krajicek will take on former A&M player and No. 32-ranked Clay Donato of North Carolina in the first round at 3:30 p.m. (CT), while Spencer will contend with fifth-seeded and sixth-ranked Bruno Agostinelli of Kentucky at 2 p.m. (CT). The singles and doubles championships will conclude on Monday, May 25 at the Mitchell Tennis Center. Krajicek is two victories away from a 20-win season with a team-leading 18-6 dual mark. Spencer is the reigning Big 12 Conference No. 3 singles champion with a 13-8 record. Both are making their first-ever NCAA singles appearance. Donato previously played for the Aggies as a freshman in 2007 before transferring to UNC.

Pollock and Krajicek will also compete in the 32-team doubles draw as one of the top eight seeds in the field beginning on Thursday, May 21. The Aggie tandem, ranked seventh nationally, will play Antoine Benneteau and Joey Burkhardt of Florida in the first round. The times for the doubles bracket will be released on Wednesday.

Last year, Krajicek and Pollock reached the NCAA doubles semifinals for the first time in school history by way of upsetting the No. 1 team in the country from Virginia. The duo turned in the program's first 20-win season in doubles since 2003 with a 9-7 victory at the top of the lineup over top-ranked Jonas Berg and Bram ten Berge of Ole Miss in the NCAA Sweet 16 on May 14. They are currently tied for eighth all-time in the 20-win club in the A&M record books.

A Star Is Born...During the NCAA men's team championship finals between USC and Ohio State on Tuesday, junior Marcus Lunt (San Antonio, Texas) made his television debut as a campus correspondent for the live broadcast on ESPNU. Ironically, A&M played three of the four semifinal teams on their home court during the regular season including 2009 national champion USC, OSU and Texas. The Aggies upset the Trojans, 4-3, on March 19 in College Station.
