Thursday's Tee Times and Pairings ![]()
TOLEDO, Ohio - No. 12-ranked Texas A&M fired an eight-under-par 276 on Wednesday to climb from 12th to third place after two rounds of the 112th NCAA Men's Golf Championship at Inverness Golf Club.
A&M's score was the best of the tournament and set a school record for an NCAA Championship. The previous mark was six-under in 1982.
Second-round play was interrupted for more than four hours at midday. Teams with afternoon start times were unable to complete their rounds because of darkness and will finish early Thursday before third-round play begins at approximately 9 a.m. (CST). Live scoring is available online at www.golfstat.com.
Senior Bronson Burgoon led the Aggies' charge with a four-under 67. Among the players who completed the second round, he is in third place at three-under (72-67=139). Burgoon is one shot behind co-leaders Russell Henley of Georgia (71-67=138) and Matt Hill of North Carolina State (69-69=138).
A&M trails leader Oklahoma State by six strokes going into Thursday's third round, which will determine the individual champion. The top eight teams after Thursday will advance to match play on Friday and Saturday to compete for the team championship. A&M is six strokes above the cut line.
"Our players were really loose before the round and went out and played great golf," A&M Coach J.T. Higgins said. "I thought we handled the delay very well. Bronson took charge and led us home but it was a terrific day all around. We're in great position and I like our chances. Obviously, the best way to advance is to win, but the main thing is to be in the top eight and still be playing on Friday."
A&M sophomores Andrea Pavan is tied for 61st (76-72=148) and senior Matt Van Zandt is tied for 119th (76-76=152).
"Bronson, Conrad and John were phenomenal today," A&M Coach J.T. Higgins said. "Conrad hit it close all day but missed a lot of putts. He could have had an absolutely amazing day. Bronson has done a good job the last few weeks of just playing his game and not worrying about anybody else. When he approaches it that way he plays his best golf."
Starting play on the back nine, the Aggies were eight-under through four holes. They played the final two holes in three under as Burgoon, Pavan and Hurley all birdied the par-5 eighth.
Shindler had the hottest start, posting four birdies in his first seven holes to get to four-under. He posted his only bogey of the day on his 14th hole, the par-4 5th.
Burgoon had five birdies and shot two-under on both nines. Hurley was two-under through four holes but was back to even after a pair of bogeys. He closed fast with birdies on his 16th and 17th holes. Pavan had three birdies and four bogeys.
"I just started out trying to make as many pars as I could and then if a birdie came then great," Burgoon said. "My main focus was the middle of the greens and fairways. That's the key to this golf course. If you hit the fairways you are going to score okay because the greens are soft. I felt like if I hit the fairways I had a really good shot at scoring well."
Van Zandt was even through eight holes before playing the next seven holes in seven over, a stretch that included two double bogeys. He finished strong with birdies on two of the last three.
