COLLEGE STATION, Texas--Texas A&M junior pitcher Alex Wilson was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the second round of the 2009 Major League Baseball Draft on Tuesday evening.

Wilson, from Hurricane, West Virginia, was the 77th overall pick and Boston's second of the draft.

A hard-throwing right-hander, Wilson appeared in 24 games for the Aggies in 2009, compiling a 6-6 record and a 4.22 ERA. He struck out a team-best 120 batters on the year in just under 90 innings of work while holding opposing hitters to a .237 average. Of his 24 outings, 16 came in relief--all later in the season--as Wilson also picked up a pair of saves.

Wilson was picked higher than any Aggie in the draft since Cliff Pennington was a first-round choice of Oakland in 2005.

The 2009 MLB Draft continues through Thursday.
