COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas A&M junior second baseman Brodie Greene was named to the All-Midwest Region second team by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA), the organization announced Thursday.
Greene, from Bullard, finished 2009 ranked second on the team with a .344 average to go along with 11 home runs, 35 RBIs and 11 stolen bases. A first-team All-Big 12 selection, he hit a team-best .375 in league games and led the conference in average for much of the season. In addition Greene, who is playing summer ball for the Texas Collegiate League's Brazos Valley Bombers, was a 37th-round selection of the Philadelphia Phillies.
The all-region teams are voted on by the coaches of the Midwest Region, which is comprised of 36 schools made up primarily of the Big 12, Missouri Valley, Summit League and Mountain West conferences. The ABCA is the primary professional organization for baseball coaches at the amateur level. Its over 6,200 members represent all 50 states and 22 countries.
