COLLEGE STATION, Texas - With roughly a month remaining in the Women's Professional Soccer regular season, former Texas A&M soccer players Kati Jo Spisak and Ashlee Pistorius are making significant contributions to their teams. Aggie Paige Carmichael is also a member of the United Soccer League's (USL) W-League.
Spisak is a goalkeeper for the Washington Freedom. Her team is 4-6-4 and in sixth place in the WPS. The Manhester, Mo., native posts a 1-0-1 record between the posts. In her two starts, she made nine saves. Spisak was the chosen by the Freedom in the eighth round of the 2009 WPS Draft.
Pistorius is a forward for the Saint Louis Athletica. The team posts a 7-5-2 record and is in second place in the WPS. Pistorius came off the bench to see action in three games and has fired off one shot. She was acquired by the Athletica after being invited to a preseason training camp.
Carmichael is currently playing for the FC Indiana Lionesses of the W-League. Her team sits in second place in the Midwest Division with an 8-0-2 record and plays its final game of the regular season on July 19. Carmichael has played in eight games and tallies a goal, an assist and four shots.
Spisak was a member of the Washington Freedom in the W-League since 2007. She lifted A&M to five Big 12 titles while in goal for the Aggies. In her four-year stint at A&M, Spisak climbed to the top of the Aggie record books, holding the No. 1 spot for most career saves (291) and most minutes in goal (8559:18). Spisak was two-time All-American and a four-year member of the Soccer Buzz All-Central Region team.
At Texas A&M, Pistorius was a four-time All-American. She is the all-time goals (81) and points (194) leader for the Aggies and also broke the Big 12's career records in both categories. As a senior, Pistorius led the nation in goals scored (25) and was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year.
Carmichael was an NSCAA All-Central Region selection in 2006 and a two-time Soccer Buzz All-Central Region pick. She was named to the All-Big 12 team her final two seasons and was a two-time Big 12 All Tournament team member. From Glendale, Ariz., Carmichael served as team captain for two years and was a recipient multiple times of A&M's "Perseverance" and "Iron Aggie" team awards.
The 2009 A&M soccer team plays an exhibition game on Aug. 15 and kicks off its season on Aug. 22 against USC. The Aggies return nine starters and 19 letterwinners, while welcoming eight accomplished newcomers.
