Five Aggies earn All-Academic honors

NEW ORLEANS - Five Texas A&M track and field athletes were named to the All-Academic team recognized by United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association this week.

Sandy Wooten each received All-Academic honors from the United State Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association from the A&M women's team.

Machacek and Wooten both competed in the 400 meters as well as the 4 x 400 relay for the Aggies. Wooten also contested the 600 yards during the indoor season as she claimed the Big 12 title in that event.

A record total of 531 athletes representing 146 Division I school composed the women's 2009 All-Academic team. USTFCCCA honors the individuals for their academic and athletic achievements during the indoor and outdoor track and field seasons.

Members of the Aggie men's team receiving the honor were Seth Lowery, Kevin McNab and Michael Preble.

Lowery competed in the high jump for A&M while McNab contested the steeplechase and distance events. Preble ran in the 400 as well as the 4 x 400 relay.

A record total of 327 athletes representing 107 Division I school composed the men's 2009 All-Academic team. USTFCCCA honors the individuals for their academic and athletic achievements during the indoor and outdoor track and field seasons.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field team, the athlete mush have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either the NCAA Indoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard or the NCAA Outdoor regional or national qualifying standard in their respective event.
