ORLANDO, Fla. - Texas A&M incoming freshman softball player, Meagan May, was one of 30 players selected to compete in the second annual Under Armour All-America softball game on Tuesday, July 21. The competition is part of the ESPN RISE Games, which began Sunday at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex.
May is featured as one of the top high school and club All-Star players in the nation and was selected by a committee of high school softball experts from ESPN RISE. The three-day celebration of athletic performance also include a team dinner, a tour of Disney World and a special fireworks celebration.
The Under Armour All-America game will be televised by ESPNU on Saturday, July 25 at 6 p.m.
The Gatorade Player of the Year finalist was a catcher and a three-time academic all-district honoree in softball from Klein Oak High School in Spring, Texas. As a junior she was a TSWA all-state selection.
May plays travel ball for the Impact Gold who finished ninth nationally in 2008. Her team was the Colorado Fireworks Champions in 2007 and finished third in the same tournament last summer. May also played for the Texas Rage.
May, who received the International Baccalaureate Diploma, was in the top 10 percent of her class, a member of the National Honor Society and Vice President of the Art Club. She also played volleyball and was the district champion in discus as a sophomore.
Fellow incoming freshman, Mel Dumezich, also participated in the Under Armour All-America Game in 2008. The ESPN RISE Games Presented by Target is a weeklong, multisport event featuring elite and competitive channel sports events, anchored by the AAU 17-under Boys Basketball Super Showcase presented by Champion (July 20-25), the Under Armour All-America Softball game (July 19-21), in addition to ESPN RISE's newly developed, elite high school football event Champion® Gridiron Kings. The weeklong event will also feature competitive channel youth sports - baseball (10U, 11U and 12U), basketball (12U and 14U), field hockey (U14, U16 and U19), track & field (12-14 and 15-18) and soccer (12-14U). Additional sponsors for the event will include POWERADE, the event's exclusive beverage provider. The ESPN RISE Games Presented by Target is expected to host 4,000 student athletes.
