Sehn Takes Seventh on 1m Springboard at FINA World Championships

Texas A&M's 11-time Big 12 Conference diving champion Eric Sehn grabbed a seventh-place finish on the 1m springboard last weekend at the 13th FINA World Championships at Rome's Stadio del Nuoto.

Representing his home country of Canada on Friday, Sehn (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada) took seventh with a six-dive total of 391.80 points and was less than four points away from the sixth-place finisher. Sehn's series of dives scored: 67.50, 64.00, 71.30, 46.50, 72.00 and 70.50. China's Kai Qin took the gold with a score of 449.0.

Also on the 1m board, Aggie sophomore-to-be Grant Nel (Melbourne, Victoria, Australia) was 19th in the preliminary round with a score of 327.65 and did not advance to the final.

On Saturday, Nel teamed with countryman Matthew Mitcham to place 14th in the prelims of the 3m synchro springboard with a score of 367.17 and did not advance.

Sehn, who completed his eligibility at A&M last spring, returned to action on Monday in the platform dive and placed 31st in the prelims with a score of 341.15 and did not advance. The platform was Sehn's final event of the competition.

Nel returns to action on Wednesday in the prelims of the 3m springboard.
